LAST DAY AT
CAPE HILLSBOROUGH
I know… I
said no more posts for a few days but I was a day ahead of myself: we won’t
leave for the outback until tomorrow (Saturday).
We should
have come down under in late August in order to have a chance at seeing the
native orchids and many other flowers that bloom only in spring. Rain has been
less than abundant so far this year and that may also account for few flowers.
However, Australia is a place of so much natural
beauty and richness that there is still lots to enjoy.
Mangos are
abundantly in season and as cheap as 10 cents each. Our favourite type so far
is Calypso, not really like any of those we can get at home (better!!!).
Strawberries
are just starting and are delicious – sun-ripened and sweet, just the way they should be.
Rocks of all shapes and sizes, remnants of the 32 million year old volcano in this park.
One of the few wildflowers that we're seeing regularly. I'm not sure whether its's a native one though. We think so, based on interpretive signs about how Aboriginals lived in previous times.
